Our view
Why we like the fund:
Like the AXA Short Duration Bond Fund in this category, this fund lends money to companies where the loan period is short (perhaps only a few years). This reduces the vulnerability of the fund to changes in interest rates. Vanguard has shown good skill in tracking its index and the cost is reasonable. The fund is also hedged to sterling. These factors combine to create a low-risk fund and it, therefore, receives modest but reliable interest payments.
How to use the fund:
For investors seeking exposure to corporate bonds, and who have a long-term horizon and are cost-conscious, this fund represents a sensible choice on the lower risk side of a portfolio.
